I am profoundly moved and horrified by the discovery of the unmarked remains of 215 Indigenous children in a former residential school. As a family, we are taking several steps to express our condolences and solidarity with the Indigenous community. Last week, we created this small tribute. It stands at the entrance to our home – a sad tribute to 215 children who never came home.

There should be a criminal investigation as the UN now demands. I highly recommend Tamara Starblanket’s book, Suffer the Little Children, about the idoctrination camps known as “residential schools”. it will shock you. She is a young Cree lawyer. A sad and lovely memorial, Cynthia. I too have been horrified by the revelation — when I first heard it on the news, it made me cry. As does hearing survivors or family members of lost children interviewed. Now I’m looking for ways to be a better ally, besides just writing to politicians.
