Twice, we have celebrated Northumberland’s artistic community with unforgettable Festivals of the Arts.
Why? Our very own Northumberland is home to a fine range of artists. Yes!—painters and photographers; artisans; classical and contemporary musicians; actors, directors and playwrights; singers and dancers; novelists, poets, memoirists and skilled storytellers!
In 2017, we timed our Festival to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. In 2019, Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell was guest of honour. On both occasions, Northumberland’s art lovers were able to enjoy evenings of lively concerts, theatre and dance. We heard poets and novelists read choice words and tell intriguing stories. We viewed paintings and photographs, scanned best-selling novels, and participated in workshops. From our regional artists, we learned a range of creative skills—from poetry, memoir, and song writing to risk-taking and rug-hooking. The more adventurous of us even acquired the sensuous art of belly dancing!
Now we are looking forward to the next Festival of the Arts in 2022!
