Tipi Gathering: Preserving Survivor Stories

Gather around the tipi fire for a powerful session of storytelling with Marsha Smoke and elders from Alderville First Nation. This event focuses on the critical work of preserving survivor stories and other Indigenous oral histories. It’s a profound opportunity to listen, learn, and understand the enduring strength and resilience of Indigenous communities.
People Migration – Looking Back, Looking Forward

The migration of people is a global challenge and a necessity. So too, it is in Northumberland County. Dave Mowat, former Chief of Alderville First Nation and historian ( and a fine blues musician too) will be part of a 3-person panel discussion sharing their journeys to Northumberland County or their community’s move to this area. Dave will give insight into migration through the lens of the Indigenous experiences exploring the significant impacts and stories, challenges, and barriers, as well as successes. Each panelist will take a look forward at themselves, their community, and their place in Canada.
Hosted by The Cobourg & Area Museum, you are invited to join in with questions of your own at this wine and cheese evening.
Sounding the Drum & Raising Our Voices

Join Elder Melody Crowe as she speaks to the importance of the Indigenous voice in storytelling, the significance of ancestral languages, and the role of art in the processes of reclamation and reconciliation. This event will feature personal writings, stories, and an engaging discussion that invites participants to reflect on the cultural and historical contributions of Indigenous peoples.
