“Therein lies the very act of creativity; revealing oneself to others. And what better way to do so than a festival designed to share and inspire.“

Who you are?
I am a fiction writer of women’s stories inspired by history. Creativity has fueled my soul, through a career in advertising, a passion for ceramic art, and creative writing. My debut novel, the Last Secret, will be released during the festival. I live in the majestic Northumberland hills north of Cobourg.
Why do you believe in the Northumberland Festival of the Arts?
Creativity is by nature a private act, but quickly becomes pointless until we share our creations with others. Therein lies the very act of creativity; revealing oneself to others. And what better way to do so than a festival designed to share and inspire. This year, NFOTA will allow us to celebrate, and rejoice in our collective resilience in the face of a pandemic.
Any passions and talents you want to share?
Bringing to life female characters who rise above oppression to get what they want.
What are your roots or groups – connections in the community?
I am a member of the Spirit of the Hills Writing Group, and the Marketing Committee for NFOTA, as well as an enthusiastic supporter of independent book sellers in Northumberland County.
What does “art” mean to you?
Art is the ability to see, reflect and express human emotion and experience. To do that well, you must reveal yourself. It is therapy; without it I fear I may have gone mad during the pandemic. Writing, escaping into my creative process, lifted me each time the fear grew. Art gives me the platform to process life experience into a shape that somehow makes sense.
Northumberland Festival of the Arts will take place across Northumberland County from September 16 – October 2, 2022.
Northumberland Festival of the Arts is a volunteer-run not-for-profit arts organization.
