This week we introduce our new weekly blog series: “What’s on at the Festival,” profiling an event or series of events for you, your friends and family to enjoy at the Northumberland Festival of the Arts, September 16 – October 2, 2022, taking place in Northumberland County’s picturesque towns and beautiful countryside.
Sixteen days of arts events is definitely something to celebrate and we plan to begin in fine style, beginning and ending this county-wide festival in the beautiful Victoria Concert Hall in Cobourg.
Christopher Cameron – playwright, author, editor, singer.
Celebrating Resilience: Opening Ceremonies
Fri Sept 16, 2022 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Victoria Hall, 55 King Street West, Cobourg, K9A 2M2
Come join in the fun of our opening ceremonies in a relaxed cabaret format: cash bar and nibbles while we entertain you and tell you what’s in store over our sixteen days of arts events all over the county.
National Poet Laureate, Louise Halfe – Sky Dancer will open the festival and share her thoughts and poetry.

Enjoy performances by Ted Staunton Maple Leaf Champions Jug Band sponsored by Friends of Music; singer/songwriter Marie-Lynn Hammond performing songs written for the festival; the collaborative group What Fun! singing our theme song, as well as Cobourg Poet Laureate Jessica Outram as our fun MC.
You’ll also see the Premier Public Screening of “Arcadia,” a multi-art genre short film story told by Dimitri Papatheodorou.

And there’s more! You’ll have an opportunity to engage with two art exhibits upstairs at the Art Gallery of Northumberland, which will open for the occasion, and for the duration of the festival. Get inspired by the art and artists in the NFOTA Augmented Exhibit and Ambient Landscapes, a juried show by Eastern Ontario artists presented in artistic partnership with the AGN.
So come, raise a glass of wine, meet some of our artists, sponsors and organizers and enjoy an entertaining kick-off to NFOTA 2022.

Help us spread the word!
As Christopher Cameron said so well: “Art is not a concept that requires quotation marks. It is not an abstract to be set apart for special attention; every word, every brush stroke, every strand is woven into the world we live in. Art is only successful if all parts of the community participate, not just those who create it.”
